Badminton America has partnered with "Stripe," a credit card company that allows businesses to receive payments from customers. Unlike Venmo, Stripe's transactions are considered banking transactions. The IRS requires that in order to receive compensation from other players through banking channels, the entity receiving the money must be a business. Therefore, each organizer needs to sign up as a business, which requires a business identifier. For most people who don't own a business, their social security number is used as the business identifier. As an organizer, it is important to note that reimbursements for court fees are not considered taxable income by the IRS.
The Organizer Profile is intended for individuals who wish to organize Badminton play, invite others, and receive payments to book and pay for courts on Court Reserve. For your convenience, use the same debit card for both your subscription and organizer accounts to see both payments and receipts on the same statement.
To begin, choose "Individual" for the business type unless you own your own business. Next, select "describe business" and type "Match Organizer --receiving reimbursements from other players." Then enter your name and bank account or debit card information. After signing up, familiarize yourself with the partner portal to access different reports for managing your account. For detailed instructions, click here.
You are now ready to pay for or create your own event using the Badminton America app. The following features will guide you through the process:
The home page displays the invites you've received from others to play, as well as all the upcoming times you are playing. Tabs at the bottom of the app take you to Home, Plays, Stats, and your account. To create a new date and time, invite players, and charge as you wish, use the green button with the "+" sign at the bottom.
To view your invites, click the green arrows to the left or right. The indicator will be greyed out if you reach the end of the list. The number of buttons below the scroll indicates the number of messages you have. Click "Details" to open the invite and accept, decline, or pay for the session.
The list is sorted by the groups you have organized, followed by the "Plays" you were invited to, and finally the "Plays" you are currently participating in. Each category is sorted by created date, from newest to oldest. Click on a play for more details, and withdraw if you can no longer attend. Click on "players" to see more details. If all spots are filled, select "Create matches" to generate all matches.
The matches are sorted in the same way as the Home page. At the top, choose "Group Plays" or "Matches". If matches were created in "Upcoming Group Plays", then the matches will be displayed. After the match has been played, select the match to open and input the scores.
Your ratings are displayed on the Stats Tab. You can choose to view the top 20, 50, or 100. Scroll to find your rating. Badminton America has its own proprietary rating algorithm for both social and competitive environments. You can compare your rating with others to find players with similar skill levels to play with.
View your rating and profile information. Select the pencil icon to change your phone number and add an address. For the address, enter the zip code and select the provided information. Select "Edit" below the photo to add or change it.
1) Provide details about the play, including the title of the group play, the venue where it will take place, and the date, start time, and end time of the session. The cutoff date is the last day that players can accept their invitation. Indicate the number of players you want to play with, as the amount owed per player will be calculated based on this number. Choose whether the event will be doubles or singles, and whether it will be public or private.
2) Add the people you want to invite, keeping in mind that you may invite more than you actually want to end up playing with. You can select individuals by typing in their first name and selecting them from the list that appears. Add as many players as you want to invite.
3) Choose whether this will be a free event or indicate the total price you want to charge. The system will automatically calculate the cost per participant based on the total amount and the number of players you selected when you started.
To access the menu, click on the three horizontal lines located in the top left-hand corner. The menu includes various items such as View Profile, Group Plays, Transactions, Subscription, Organizer Profile, and Log Out.
To view your match statistics and add or edit your personal information, select "View profile". The app uses the address you provide to display public events in your area.
The home page will take you to the main page of the website.
List of past payments you have made in transactions.
The subscription allows you to pay the organizer for your play. When initially signing up or renewing the plan, click "Add coupon code" on the top right. You may change or cancel the plan at any time. The platform displays your current plan and allows you to add more payment options, set a default payment method, or delete a secondary account. Note that you must always have at least one account. To update your billing address, select the pencil icon.
The Organizer Profile is designed for those who would like to receive payments from other players as an organizer. To sign up on our website, select "Describe Business" and type "Organizer". Enter your bank information or debit card details where you want other players to deposit funds. For better transaction management, we recommend using the same debit card for both charging and collecting funds. Once you have signed up, you can view various details to see your transaction history.

To receive money from other players, Badminton America has partnered with Stripe, a credit card company. Because it is a banking transaction, there are extra security steps to receive monies. You will be asked to sign up as a business and provide a description of your product. You will also be asked for your DOB and the last 4 of your Social (see instructions by clicking the link below).
Stripe is required by law to authenticate banking data. Once these steps are taken, you can begin to receive monies directly into your account. To get started, choose "Organizer Profile" from the main menu on your app or click on the link below to see more details.
The IRS mandates that income above $600.00 needs to be reported by businesses. Reimbursements are not considered income.
The player has not signed up on the app. Reach out to them and encourage them to sign up!
Yes! Just type in the number you want, put the number of how many can play - make a note like "The first 6 to sign up get to play." The app will disallow anyone from signing up after the number of players you put has been accepted and paid.
Yes. Nothing changes with the use of Court Reserve. We would love to integrate directly with Court Reserve in the future. Stay tuned!
Ratings are generated initially from the Badminton America app through a self-rating survey. Once a player has a rating, they may play other rated players and record the results in the app. Each time a player records a match result in the app their rating will be adjusted based on the score of the match, the strength of their opponent, and the strength of their partner in the case of doubles. Our rating system is different from others in that it is based on expectations.
For example, if you are rated lower than your opponent then you are expected to lose a game against them. In some cases, if you lose the game but keep the score close you may still increase your rating, and your opponent's rating would decrease. The opposite is true where if you lose by a larger margin than expected your rating may go down more significantly. What our rating system does is it ends up stratifying players into certain absolute levels as opposed to other systems which are more based upon relative strength.
Because of this, and because points are gained/lost based on performance relative to expectations, every point matters in every game. Even if you are greatly outmatched by a stronger opponent you still have a chance to improve your rating as long as you outperform your expected result! In games that might otherwise be predictable, this has a way of keeping them interesting, somewhat comparable to a handicap system.
No it will not. It will take 10-12 games to put your rating in line with where it is now.
Please email support@badmintonamerica.com. It can help to send a screenshot, whether you have an iPhone or an Android, the model you have, and what version you are using. We will reply as soon as we can! We also appreciate any feedback so that we can improve your experience using the app!
